Joan's business career started at Clark Oil and Refining Corporation and then Miller Brewing Company, where she was a management training specialist. After joining Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company (NML), she became the Manager of Organizational Development, overseeing training and consulting services for over 3,000 employees. She was appointed an officer of the company in 1986. She moved from the Human Resources Department to Insurance Operations and was the officer responsible for field/home office communications and training. She was also the consultant to senior management on succession planning, leadership development and performance management.

While working in corporate America, Lloyd started her weekly newspaper column, "Joan Lloyd @ Work," which is now syndicated in over 30 newspapers, magazines and Websites across America. 

In 1990, she left NML to found Joan Lloyd & Associates, Inc., a management consulting and training firm that helps organizations become "employers of choice." She helps leaders and technical professionals manage their employees, their business and their careers. 

Joan is a sought after speaker & speaking coach, trainer and facilitator for companies of all sizes, from start-ups to the Fortune 500. Her clients include Harley Davidson Motor Company, AT&T and Quaker Oats, as well as trade and professional associations across the country and internationally. 

She has earned the CSP (Certified Speaking Professional), a designation granted by the National Speakers Association, and awarded to a only a handful of speakers in the world. She has shared the podium with notables such as President Bush, Dr. Joyce Brothers, Captain Jim Lovell of Apollo 13, and Elizabeth Dole. 

She is the author of The Career Decisions Planner- When to Move, When to Stay and When to Go Out on Your Own (John Wiley & Sons, New York, 1992). She is the author of many audio and video programs and a Tips Booklet Series that are used by some of the best companies in America.

Joan Lloyd is a featured "Workplace Expert" in the media and on the Web. Since 1989, her media credits include 10 years as a weekly guest on WTMJ's top rated call-in show, a weekly Joan Lloyd at Work feature on Milwaukee's WTMJ-TV (NBC) morning news, Madison's WISC-TV (NBC) evening news and Milwaukee's WITI (CBS) morning news. "Joan Lloyd at Work" was syndicated in 12 major television markets across America, on all three major networks. Joan has a BS in Education and an MS in Education/Counseling, both from the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh. She is also on the Board of Directors for several public and private corporations and community organizations.
